One of the hardest places to go brought about a rewarding and hard-fought three points on the road on Thursday night with Gabriel netting the only goal of the game. No Tomiyasu.

Gabriel Martinelli was sent off (of course) for an outstanding piece of pedantry from referee Michael Oliver, booking the Brazilian twice for separate incidents just 10 seconds apart. Never seen anything like that before, but of course, when it happens, it happens to the Arsenal – the agenda is real.

Gabriel had managed to put us ahead on 25 minutes after Lacazette had managed to bundle down the keeper, Gabriel poking home the ball for 0-1.

Anyway, we still managed to protect the lead thanks to some valiant defending and goalkeeping, Aaron Ramsdale putting on another spectacular performance between the sticks.

Despite having the worst January ever, plus drawing with Burnley, this was our first win in six games, and we finish this ‘gameweek’ fifth in the league, still with games in hand.

Arteta was less than happy with the red card nonsense:

“I’ve never seen anything like it…”

What a day out and what a result! Brentford at home next where we can really start to build on this result!
