During his press conference this morning, Mikel Arteta announced that Alexandre Lacazette will be his new permanent captain following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s unceremonious exit from the club after weeks of failing to toe Arteta’s line.
However, Lacazette looks likely to leave on a free transfer this summer so clearly Arteta will need to appoint another captain once we have our summer signings in place, but for the rest of this season the Frenchman will take over.
Lacazette is a regular starter now and a senior member of the squad, so for now, this move seems to make sense, but you’d imagine in the summer once we have our agile, quick, young squad in place, he might choose someone a bit younger, like Kieran Tierney, Ben White or even Aaron Ramsdale.

It’s thought Lacazette could be captain for tomorrow night’s clash with Wolves at Molineux, team news in the morning as soon as we hear more…
