Calum Chambers joined Aston Villa in a shock move late last night as Mikel Arteta continued to clear out the squad. It seems like a very odd decision to let him go given what a versatile and reliable player he was, but hey ho Mikel knows best and all that.
He joined Aston Villa for an ‘undisclosed fee’ thought to have been either zero or something around the £2m mark, but as always, Arsenal never reveal any amounts for players.
Chamber’s contract was up in the summer anyway so we’ve obviously decided to move him on now to free up another salary ahead of a huge amount of players who are bound to be definitely maybe coming in over the next few days of course. He now joins a very long, and growing list of departures which now includes Pablo Mari, Sead Kolasinac, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, that goalie guy, and some others I can’t remember, oh yeah… the other fella, oh, and that other one who left last week.
Arsenal wished him well, and Chambers himself said:
“It’s a very exciting place to be and everyone can see that from the outside. Things are happening here and it’s definitely moving in the right direction. For me, it was a no-brainer to join a great club. It was the right thing for me to do…”
Good luck to Calum from everyone at ArsenalShorts (i.e. me) and more news on all of the players we bring in later as soon as we hear, reader(s).
