Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been left behind as the rest of the squad heads to Dubai in a shock move by the club.
He’s also been left to train on his own as it looks like the club are set to offload the player this month after he seemingly fell out with Mikel Arteta last month.
Aubameyang was flown home without kicking a ball at the African Cup of Nations after a health scare thought to have been related to the player picking up COVID-19 ahead of the tournament while partying in Dubai and there were also rumours of him being drunk and involved in a fight during the same time.
Matt Law in the Telegraph reckons he’s only been binned due to coming back from visiting his mother back in December, but I think that was just the latest indiscretion in a long line of indiscretions, but he claims Auba is fuming over the move. Jack Wilshere has been invited to join the party despite not even being a contracted squad member in a move sure to anger Aubameyang further.
It looks like we’ll be busy in the transfer market over the coming days trying to offload Aubameyang and also trying to replace him. It’s through that the Swede Alexander Isak is on the radar along with Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton. It was also rumoured that we’d put in a huge bid to try and tempt Vlahovic from Fiorentina, but it now looks like the Serb is going to move to Juventus leaving us with just a few days to find a striker.
It’s clear where our problems lie at the moment. We have only scored one goal in our last five goals, and you have to ask the question ‘would we have even scored that one if Aubameyang was playing?’.
