Thomas Partey has issued a social media apology for his red card at the end of Thursday night’s Carabao Cup defeat.

Partey received two yellow cards in quick succession, and it was announced that he’d only landed back from Cameroon a few hours earlier following Ghana’s AFCON exit.

Partey will now join Granit Xhaka on the suspension list for our game against Burnley on Sunday afternoon, our last game for a few weeks.

Mikel Arteta defended the decision to play him:

“I do not regret, but I cannot use him now. It is what it is, he made the effort to come, we had to play him. He landed at midday and came straight to the hotel and he wants to be there on the bench to help. Smith Rowe has not had one single training session, Odegaard as well, Laca had a yellow card. We had to make a decision and we decided to use him and unfortunately that happened…”

Clearly wasn’t the best decision with tiredness playing a part, but fingers crossed we have enough to get a result on Sunday afternoon ahead of a chance to get everyone back and fit.
