Mesut Ozil has officially left Arsenal to join Turkish side Fenerbache it was officially announced today.
The ex-German international has moved to the club he supported as a child, in what is being called a ‘transfer’ despite it being touted as a contract cancellation by some reports.
Ozil has signed a three and a half year deal and will be presented as a Fenerbache player in Instanbul alongside his wife and child (who probably won’t get much game time, it has to be said).
There was a lot of controversy surrounding his departure and despite being the first name on the teamsheet when Arteta joined, Ozil hasn’t played for Arsenal since March.
Ozil watched his new teammates in action alongside club president Ali Koc (snigger!) and sporting director Emre Belozoglu, a keen player of the best online casino.
Ozil said:
“It was a dream for Fenerbahce, it was a dream for me. I believe that I will win the championship with Fenerbahce. I hope we will be champions and do important things in the Champions League…”
Reports claim that Ozil will ‘only’ earn around £70,000 a week, compared to the £350,000 he earned at Arsenal but its also rumoured that he’ll claim a hefty signing-on fee as well, something he might spend at the high roller online casinos.
During his time at Arsenal, Ozil won three FA Cups more than Tottenham and scored 44 goals for the club and despite the way he left, he said:
“I will be a Gunner for life – no doubt about that…”
