Our mini-revival continued in the snow at The Hawthorns tonight as we ran out 4-0 winners against Big Sam’s West Brom.
Goals from man of the hour Keiran Tierney, man of the moment Bukayo Saka and two from man of the match Alexandre Lacazette made sure we got 2021 off to a winning start.
The win saw us leapfrog Leeds up into the heady heights of 11th spot in the league table, just 3 points off of Chelsea in 6th place as our resurgence continued with a third win on the bounce.
We looked threatening from the kick-off and Hector Bellerin had gone close before Saka crossed for Aubameyang who couldn’t quite reach the ball to put us ahead. Kieran Tierney opened the scoring on 23 minutes, with a determined dribble and curling finish Thierry Henry would have been proud of – Tierney’s usual roaring celebration followed.
Saka made it two 5 minutes later, on the end of another perfect team goal, slotting home from close range. Lacazette slotted home two second-half goals to complete the rout and with Emile Smith-Rowe having yet another brilliant game in midfield and yet another clean sheet, things are looking up for Arsenal (at last!).
Mikel Arteta said after the game:
“We had a big week, three games (Brighton A 0-1, Chelsea H 3-1) in seven days, and we managed to win them and everything looks much better. It was difficult conditions but the team looked sharp from the start…”
We now look to the FA Cup on the 9th of January (17:30 pm KO) before another home league game with Palace on Thursday 14th of January (20:00 pm KO).
