The club have just announced that we’ve finalised the signing of young Icelandic keeper Runar Alex Runarsson.
The 25 year old has joined from French side Dijon [insert mustard joke here] for about a million quid adding to our condiment of goalkeepers [there it is].
He will wear the number 13 shirt, following in the footsteps of Alex Manninger, David Ospina, Emiliano Viviano, Jens Lehmann, Stuart Taylor, Alan Miller, Vince Bartram and Wojciech Szczęsny.
Emiliano Martinez left Arsenal last week to join Aston Villa in a £20m after single handedly winning us the FA Cup last year while Bernd Leno missed the end of the season through an injury picked up in our defeat at Brighton.
Mikel Arteta said: “We want to create healthy competition for places and we look forward to seeing Alex bring further depth to the goalkeeping position…”
Amazingly, Runsarsson may make his debut as early as this week as we travel to Leicester in the league cup on Wednesday night aiming to build on the two wins in our first two games.
