Supersub Eddie Nketiah popped up with just five minutes left on the clock to win us all three points against West Ham on Saturday. Alexandre Lacazette had put us ahead with a Oli Giroud bullet header on the end of a sublime Aubameyang chip after just 25 minutes before we let a sloppy goal in during first half injury time.
West Ham were arguably the better side in the second half, going close through Antonio who hit the bar, and Bernd Leno had to make some smart saves to keep the scores level. West Ham were also unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when Gabriel looked to have handled in the box, a VAR review denied the spot kick, whoever was operating the VAR was probably mucking about on the PowerPlay Website.
After our brilliant performance away to Fulham on the opening day of the season, our play was slow and uninspiring and it looked like we were about to drop two points to an equally uninspired West Ham side, however, with just five minutes left on the clock, Dani Ceballos crossed for his old mate; Eddie Nketiah to score into an empty net to send the home fan wild.
The result leaves us joint top of the league with six points out of six, with a nice easy trip to Anfield up next Monday in the league.
This week, however, we turn our attention Carabao Cupwards with a visit to Leicester in the 3rd round to earn a place in the 4th round against… yep, you guessed it, Liverpool at Anfield. No easy games at this level Jeff.
