Football.London claim today that there has been some news on Mikel Arteta’s apparent pursuit of Dayot Upamecano.
RB Leipzig had until now been adamant they’d try and keep the players, but their managing director has now said that both him and Tim Werner could leave this summer to avoid the club ending up letting both players got for nothing when their contracts expire in a years time.
Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Man United and Chelsea are all rumoured to have the 21-year-old on their radar, but Arteta is said to be looking for a partner for William Saliba, who has joined us from St. Etienne and the Spaniard will have been encouraged by Oliver Mitzlaff’s latest quote:
“In the Covid-19 crisis, we have other issues greater than concerns about contracts, for us, it is a no go that the top performers will be allowed to leave our club free of charge. That’s the case with Timo Werner and that will be the case with Dayot Upamecano. I have the economic stability of the club in mind…”
There was talk of Leipzig extended Upamecano’s current contract, but whether that happens or we put in a bid remains to be seen, but those words are encouraging for the club.
Again, as with all of these current rumours, no one knows quite what will happen or whether the club will tighten the purse strings when or if things get back to normal but …
