29th March 1918 – West Ham 4-1 Arsenal. Turned out it wasn’t a very good Good Friday for us as we got hammered in front of 10,500 Cockney Herberts.
29th March 1919 – Around the time of Henry Norris, ‘Clem Voysey’ played for Arsenal, yet was named ‘Newman’ on the teamsheet. Investigations later found out there were plenty of dodgy dealings surrounding his contract and signing-on fees. Probably nothing to do with Henry Norris of course.
29th March 1954 – Arsenal beat Chelsea in the London Challenge Cup to win the trophy for the 6th time.
29th March 1958 – Portsmouth 5-4 Arsenal. It was the second time in two months that Arsenal lost 5-4.
29th March 1973 – Our second best Dutch player; Marc Overmars was born in Emst, Holland. He started 91 league games and scoring 25 goals before moving to Barcelona. He won the double with Arsenal in 97/98, scoring the winner to kickstart our incredible comeback which began with the 1-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
