25th March 1893 – Millwall Athletic 0-1 Arsenal. Perhaps our very first 1-0 to the Arsenal, on the road for a Millwall away day in front of 6,000 fans. Back in 1893, Millwall were actually Arsenal’s biggest rivals, and you can read more on that over at Arsenal.com here.

25th March 1910 – Newcastle 1-1 Arsenal. When the season is in full swing, we’re usually moaning about fixture pile-ups, but how about this one? This draw with Newcastle was the first of three games in four days.

25th March 1916 – Arsenal 1-1 Reading. After this wartime league game, Sir Henry Norris left the club to join the War Office.

25th March 1933 – Newcastle 2-1 Arsenal. Despite March being the new/old November back in 1933, we still won the league. This game contributed to 3 defeats and a draw in March as it looked like we’d Spurssed it.

25th March 1966 – Arsenal legend Pat Rice turned professional with Arsenal having signed as an apprentice in 1964.

25th March 1973 – Bob McNab appeared as a footballer in an episode of On the Buses. Surely the best every entry in ‘On This Day’.

25th March 1988 – Brian Marwood joined Arsenal from Sheffield Wednesday for £600,000 going on to play over 50 games for the Arsenal down the left wing, scoring 16 goals before moving to Sheffield United in 1990.

25th March 1989 – Arsenal 3-1 Southampton. Perry Grove, David Rocastle and Paul Merton on the scoresheet as we headed towards an ‘unbelievable climax to the league season’.

25th March 1999 – Arsene Wenger said this about Ray Parlour: “For me, Parlour is a real Arsenal man, a regular performer who offers the team so much with his stamina and strength.”

25th March 2003 – Chelsea 1 Arsenal 3, FA Cup 6th round replay. Sylvain Wiltord, Lauren and an unfortunate, yet hilarious own goal from John Terry saw us into the final. John Terry actually scored at both ends that evening, something, something, Wayne Bridge’s wife something.

25th March 2014 – Arsenal 2-2 Swansea. As it looked like we were about to redeem ourselves after the 6-0 defeat by Chelsea the previous weekend, Mathieu Flamini scored a last minute OG as we dropped two points at home. Match report here.
