Özil’s agent, Dr Erkut Sögüt has said that offers are coming in for Mesut, as the player weighs up a life after Arsenal, but he’s going nowhere until his contract expires.

Özil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in the winter transfer window of 2013 in sensational style after the Spaniards signed Gareth Bale from Tottenh*m.

Sögüt told iNews:

“At the moment, we don’t even talk about it, because he still has one-and-a-half-years left. He still has 15 months to go. Until then, he will stay at Arsenal, for sure. He will stay until the end of his contract. There’s no chance he’ll leave…”

Özil’s contract, which he signed in 2018 is thought to be worth around £350,000 a week making him the highest earner at the club, a salary befitting of a World Cup Winner, once said to be the fourth best player in the world behind Messi, Ronaldo and Emmanuel Eboue.

Sögüt added:

“He is going into the end of this contract, he will be 32 years old, he will be a free agent, and it’s not a bad situation, he can still go and play in top-level football for the next two or three years…”

Sögüt added that he’ll be on the lookout for the best deal possible for his client, but with no chance of the player leaving until the end of his contract, let’s hope Özil can use all of his experience to lift this side to a top four (or five) finish in the closing stages of this transitional season under Mikel Arteta.

After recovering from our forgettable Europa League exit on Thursday, we now have the weekend to sort ourselves out before we play Portsmouth on a wet Monday night on the south coast – what could possibly go wrong there?
