As Sky Sports’ Jim White gets put back in his cryogenic chamber until the next transfer window, and the TV giants put all of their yellow transfer window paraphernalia into storage, its turned out we actually made two more decent signings that we actually needed.
Earlier in the week we signed Pablo Mari from Flamengo, a left footed centre back in a Thomas Vermaelen mould, and on the last day of the window we signed Cedric Soares from Southampton.
The 28 year old is a right back and will be hoping to unseat Hector Bellerin in the right back slot, with many people saying that Ainsley Maitland-Niles will mow move up in to midfield as a result. Cedric will wear the number 17 shirt, worn recently by such Arsenal old boys such as Alex Iwobi, Alexis Sanchez and Nacho Monreal. Pablo Mari will wear the number 22 shirt.
Fittingly for Arsenal, Soares has a long injury record and is ironically the standard Arsenal ‘three weeks away’ from full fitness. However, this isn’t the end of the world as following tomorrow’s game at Burnley there are two weeks off for the lads given that we don’t have a FA Cup replay.
It sounds like Portu-geezer; Soares has made is dream move, when he said yesterday:
“We were close a few years ago, so it’s not the first time. It didn’t happen that time but now thank God it came true. I’m super happy. Obviously it’s amazing this step, to come here and play for Arsenal…”
That’s ‘The Arsenal’ to you laddie. Welcome and good luck Cedric!
