After our energy-sapping win over Bournemouth on Tuesday night, Shkodran Mustafi was thought to have picked up a major ankle injury.
Bellerin and Sokratis also went down injured but ran off their respective knocks, while poor Mustafi was stretchered off and later seen on crutches and a protective boot leaving Arsenal fans fearing the worst.
However, it’s been revealed via The Evening Standard that the German defender ‘only’ has an ankle sprain despite how bad it looked during the game when he fell awkwardly and seemed to bend his foot and ankle backwards.
The Arsenal medical team assessed the injury during the week when it was confirmed as nothing worse than just a sprain and there’s even a slim chance he could be fit to play against Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday.
Mikel Arteta has bought in Flamengo defender Pablo Mari on loan for the season and David Ornstein claims that we could still be in line to bring in another loan signing this week.
The player in question is thought to be Southampton full back Cedric Soares before Friday’s 11pm transfer deadline, Ornstein tweeted:
Expectation is Arsenal will complete signing of 28yo Portugal full-back Cedric Soares from Southampton within 24hrs. Loan until end of season will earn #SaintsFC £5m inc full salary cover + put #AFC in pole position if they want permanent when free agent in summer @TheAthleticUK
