Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote is planning to take over Arsenal next year but has cancelled this years planned takeover as he’s a bit busy on another project according to reports.

The 96th richest man in the world has revealed he wants to take over the club from Stan Kroenke who, let’s be honest, probably has no plans to sell but it sounds like Dangote is determined to prise the club from Kroenke’s evil clutches when he gets round to it.

STOP PRESS: It looks like this story is VERY old and is quotes from almost two years ago. Not sure what you’d do without the ArsenalShorts responsible reporting policy! Original story here.

Most Arsenal fans, while happy that the club isn’t buying into the Chelsea and Man City model of selling out all of the clubs values to buy trophies would no doubt be happy with an owner who was slightly less cautious with the purse strings. Someone perhaps who could see the blindingly, bleeding obvious fact that you spend a bit, you get in the Champions League, you make more money and more players want to come and play for you, rinse repeat etc.

Anyway, before Dangote gets told to bugger off by Kroenke, he apparently wants to finish off knocking up the world’s largest oil refineries first, then he’ll buy and take over Arsenal. Sounds similar to my To Do List, take out the bins and don’t forget to get some bread at lunchtime.

Dangote is quoted as saying:

“It [Arsenal] is a team that yes I would like to buy some day, but what I keep saying is we have $20billion worth of projects and that’s what I really want to concentrate on. I’m not buying Arsenal right now, I’m buying Arsenal when I finish all these projects, because I’m trying to take the company to the next level…”

As aforementioned, Kroenke would probably have no intention of selling his money making machine some call The Arsenal, but everyone loves a trier and hopefully once Dangote has finished off his refinery, picked the kids up from school and mowed the lawn he can see his way clear to turning our fortunes around.
