Following the impressive win over Manchester United, Nicolas Pepe has been speaking out about the newly-coined (by me just now) ‘Arteta effect’. Pepe opened the scoring ahead of Sokratis’ second which was enough to see off Solskjaer’s United.
Arteta now has a win under his belt along with the growing trust of the players since his appointment as he looks to build on the win, and Pepe cites the work of Spaniard as instrumental in turning round the Arsenal fortunes.
Pepe has been a lot better since Arteta took over from Freddie Ljungberg and like his team mate Mesut Ozil seems like a new player in recent games.
Pepe said, via The Metro:
“It is all new for us. A new system, new instructions. We are adapting quickly. That has been seen in the last three matches, even though we did not win, we were very good, we were just missing the victory, which we were able to do tonight. We need to continue like this. I had a discussion with the coach this morning and he told me I was going to start and asked if I felt ready and stuff like that. I told the boss I felt ready…”
Next up for Arteta’s Arsenal is an FA Cup game at home against Leeds United on Monday night where Arteta will be aiming for another home win in the third round. He may rotate his players so its yet to be seen whether or not Pepe will retain his place after his goal scoring exploits.
