Gabriel Martinelli scored twice and provided an assist as a ruthless, young Arsenal side put Standard Liege to the sword at The Emirates.
Emery had made a whopping ten changes to the side that drew with Man United last Monday. He bought in a few youngsters, starting Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock, Kieran Tierney and Gabriel Martinelli.
Hector Bellerin captained the side but there was no place in the squad for Mesut Ozil as rumours grow of a rift between the player and his manager.
Anyway, back to the game, Martinelli headed us in front after just 13 minutes, and 3 minutes later scored his second with a superb curling effort to double our lead.
Joe Willock also put away a curling shot on 22 minutes as Arsenal threatened to run riot, and it wasn’t until the 57th minute until we scored again with Dani Ceballos notching his first Arsenal goal.
Arsenal:
Martinez, Bellerin, Mustafi, Holding, Tierney, Torreira, Ceballos, Willock, Nelson, Maitland-Niles, Martinelli.
Subs:
Pepe, Guendouzi, Aubameyang.
We return to Premier League action on Sunday where we entertain Bournemouth, the game kicks off at The Emirates at 2pm.
