Ex-Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu thinks that we made a mistake by selling Alex Iwobi to Everton.
After a chaotic transfer deadline day, Iwobi joined Theo Walcott at Everton after his 15 year relationship with Arsenal came to an end.
Kanu told Goal.com that:
“I would say they made a mistake, 100 per cent. Why they let him go, I don’t know. He’s a boy who, in and out, is Arsenal. He always wanted to do his best for the club. He loves the club, but not only that he can play football…”
Alex Iwobi himself admitted that the offer from Everton was too good to turn down on transfer deadline day and that he was concerned that a bid for Wilfried Zaha by Arsenal could spell the end of his Arsenal career. A move for Zaha never materialised, but Iwobi left anyway.
Iwobi said:
“The [Everton] manager was telling me: ‘There is a spot for you, we will take care of you’. Basically, all the things you want to hear as a player. Hopefully with this move I am able to make a name for myself in the Premier League and create history with Everton…”
Not sure Kanu has it right, but good luck to Alex Iwobi anyway!
