Following an entertaining pre-season, and even more entertaining transfer window, its back to Premier League action tomorrow as we make the mammoth journey North to play Newcastle.
Despite some amazing signings in positions we needed to strengthen, we still find ourselves in a position where we are struggling to put a strong side together ahead of the clash.
Alexandre Lacazette has an ankle problem, but could still feature, while new signing Nicolas Pepe is in the squad but not thought to be ready to play after being away over the summer at the African Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast.
The defence is the major problem area though, with Bellerin and Holding still recovering from their long term injuries, paired with the announcement that Dinos Mavropanos is also out for 6 more weeks with a groin issue.
Elneny and Smith-Rowe are also on their way back to fitness but probably won’t be ready in time for the game tomorrow.
We will also be without Alex Iwobi as he’s left for Everton, but David Luiz will most likely slot straight into the first team alongside Sokratis in the heart of the defence.
Kieren Tierney won’t play a part for around 6 weeks as he recovers from injury, while Gabriel Martinelli and Dani Ceballos could both play a part.
The big, big news today is that Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac didn’t make the trip up north due to “further security incidents” following the traumatic carjacking incident in London a few weeks ago.
Arsenal have released a statement saying that they are protecting players and families with the move, and providing ongoing support.
So, fingers crossed despite all of the omissions, we will have enough to get ourselves off to a winning start.
