After Tottenham’s humiliating defeat against their London rivals at the best stadium ever built yesterday, it was an amazing opportunity for us to get back to just a point off of third place against Leicester.
However, none of our players seemed to realise the enormity of the situation and continued to play like a cross between Sheena Easton and a carrot.
No one came out of it well aside from perhaps Leno who made a couple of great saves and with so much to do, the law of averages meant a couple of his saves were impressive.
We were basically battered by a far more determined Leicester side who deserved all they got, and with just two games left in the league and it’s fair to say we have missed out on top four now with no point from our last three games. The only chance we have now of making Champions League next season is by winning the Europa League but if we play like we did today on Thursday, we won’t even make the final.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles was red carded in the first half after two fouls, and in fairness we did well to weather the storm and go in at the break on level terms.
On the hour mark, Leicester went ahead after a great Leicester move, the impressive Maddison found Tielemans who finished really well past Leno. The rest of the game, we found ourselves on the back foot, and in the words of the Spice Girls one became two, at which point I switched my TV off only to find out later on that it actually finished 3-0. We could have had a penalty at 1-0 when Torreira was clotheslined in the box, but it wasn’t given and if the truth be told we also got what we deserved, nowt, zero, nanq.
Utter disgrace of a performance at a time we needed to be bold and get ourselves back in the driving seat but ended up being run over and dumped at the side of the road.
It’s back to the Europa League this week, but if we carry on like we didn’t today, we can kiss goodbye to our final rather unlikely route back into the Champions League.
