According to German Sports Paper Bild, Joachim Low tried to visit the training ground yesterday for a ‘clear-the-air’ meeting with Mesut Ozil only to be turned away.

They also claim that Ozil has been ignoring texts and phone messages from Low who is said to be keen to smooth things over.

Low has been in town for ‘The Best’ awards hosted by FIFA to coincide with the release of FIFA 19 this week and wanted face to face talks with Mesut.

Pre-Brentford Injury Latest

They claim that Ozil wasn’t keen to speak to Low either and Unai Emery gave the final decision not to let him in and it’s thought that Low and Olivier Bierhoff ended up chatting with Mertesacker, Leno Mustafi.

Bierhoff said:

“We would have liked to talk to Mesut, but we have to accept that he doesn’t want to speak with us right now…”

Ozil controversially announced his retirement recently from the German national team, citing elements of racial abuse, and it seems as though he’s still smarting about his treatment.

He’d said in a shock statement:

“I am German when we win, but I am an immigrant when we lose, this is because despite paying taxes in Germany, donating facilities to German schools and winning the World Cup with Germany in 2014, I am still not accepted into society. I am treated as being ‘different’…”

Low has denied any racism had occurred and was probably trying to clear things up, but between Ozil and Emery it looks like they think its still too soon for any reconciliation.
