Arsenal’s chase of Dortmund defender, Sokratis Papastathopoulos is edging closer to being agreed according to reports.
This is according to many sources, and with the deal seemingly almost done, one of his old team-mates at Dortmund, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has given a strong clue that it’s happening.
The Gabon striker ‘liked’ a post on Instagram which read: ‘With Sokratis close to joining Arsenal, who is excited to see these 3 playing in the same team again?’
The trio played together for four and a half seasons in Germany so to see them all reunited would be a great deal for Arsenal.
Arsenal coach, Unai Emery is keen on adding to our defence and the club is making sure that he’ll be backed in his pursuit. The Greece defender is likely to be Arsenal first signing of the summer and an announcement could be made as early as today (Monday 4th June).
Looking at the decision for the club to go for a veteran defender compared to bringing in new blood, it could be seen from various perspectives. He could be coming in as a full on like for like replacement for Laurent Koscielny, or just as back up while the Frenchman recovers.
