As the World Cup in Russia draws ever closer, it seems our traditional close-season injury problems have already begun.
Granit Xhaka has injured his knee while training with Switzerland and could potentially miss the competition in Russia which starts in about two weeks. See here for all the latest World Cup odds with Netbet.co.uk.
The midfield hardman was in Visible distress as he left the training session and his knee was immediately examined by the Swiss Medical Team.
It’s thought that the Swiss Captain Stephen Lichsteiner will be joining Xhaka at club level very soon, the 25-year-old player said to be set for a move to The Emirates in the coming days according to reports. Lichtsteiner is set to leave Juve on a free transfer and could join up with Xhaka along with Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos who is also said to be close to making a £16m move to Arsenal.
Switzerland play Spain in a pre-World Cup friendly ahead of their World Cup games against Brazil, Serbia and Costa Rica in Russia in June so it remains to be seen whether or not Xhaka will play a part.
