Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a move for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani ahead of a potential move in the summer.

For all the options the Gunners possess going forward, their defence has been atrocious so far this season having conceded the highest number of goals (45) among the top six clubs.

The centre-back pairing of Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny have been awful this season and with Per Mertesacker set to retire at the end of the season, a new centre-back is required ahead of the next season.

However, according to TeamTalk, the Gunners are preparing a £25 million summer move for Daniele Rugani who has been earmarked as a direct replacement for the error prone Mustafi.

The Italian defender was linked with a move to The Emirates in the winter transfer window but a move failed to materialise with the Gunners failing to make a move for him.

Despite finding games hard to come by at the Allianz Stadium so far this term after been limited to just 17 appearances across all competitions, with Allegri prefering the experience pairing of Mehdi Benatia and Giorgio Chiellini ahead of the highly rated defender, Daniele Rugani will improve the Gunners leaky defence having grown into one of the most talented centre-backs in the Serie A.

It is believed he might be open to a move to the Emirates as long as he can be guaranteed regular playing time.

The 23-year-old is often regarded as a ball-playing defender and he is known for his concentration, awareness, interceptions, anticipation, tough tackling, aerial prowess and also less prone to errors.

Given his age and massive potential he could be a long-term replacement for the soon to retire and Mertesacker.
