Arsenal are weighing up a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez ahead of a potential summer move, according to reports.

With Santi Cazorla yet to recover from the serious tendon injury that has kept him out for over a year, Arsene Wenger has identified Saul Niguez as the man to replace the injury plagued midfielder.

The Spanish international grew up from a 13-year-old boy at Atletico Madrid and has established himself as a key part of Diego Simeone’s midfield since the departure of Mario Suarez and an injury to Tiagi Mendes in the 2015/16 season.

Although, given his affinity for his boyhood club it might be difficult to sign him unless the Gunners come up with a tempting offer to Atletico for his services.

He has impressed for the Los Rojiblancos in the middle of the park this season and he is often regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the La Liga.

The central midfielder is known for his tough tackling abilities, dribbling, passing, finishing, long shots, concentration, tactical awareness, pace and making key interceptions.

The 23-year-old has featured in 47 games for Atletico Madrid this season scoring five times and providing three assists.

Given his age, quality and massive potential he would be a fantastic addition to the Gunners and could be the perfect replacement for Santi Cazorla.
