Arsenal announced today the news we’ve all been waiting for, that Mesut Ozil will be staying at Arsenal and as a result, won’t be joining Manchester United this summer. It was confirmed today on Arsenal.com that Ozil signed a ‘long term deal’ which will keep him at Arsenal until 2021.

Ozil has long been linked with a move away from The Emirates as his deal came to an end but the German international has signed a new big-money contract to stay at Arsenal, despite apparent interest from PSG, Man United and some Chinese teams.

Ozil has won the FA Cup three times during his time at Arsenal, and has also won the World Cup while he’s been with us, in 2014 and will be hoping to add to this impressive tally this season, with the Carabao Cup and Europa League still to play for.

Arsene Wenger said on Arsenal.com that Mesut Ozil’s new deal makes it feel like a new signing, especially given the amount of speculation linking the player with a move away from Arsenal.

He said:

It is [like a new signing], because many predicted that he will not commit and not sign for us. Overall it’s good news for us. When you look at the transfer market today, the fact that you can keep a player of that calibre is of course good news.
