The club have now officially made the announcement about the appointment of former Barcelona Director of Football Raul Sanllehi after weeks of speculation.
Sanllehi will be taking the role of Head of Football Relations (and definitely NOT Director of Football) from February after spending 14 seasons at Barcelona.
This appointment is the second in two weeks Arsenal are making to the back room management with the first being the appointment of Sven Mislintat as Chief Scout.
Mislintat has left his position as Chief Scout at Borussia Dortmund and will continue the same role at Arsenal – another integral part of what looks to be a complete overhaul of the system at Arsenal and it doesn’t seem as though we have seen the end yet.
Steve Rowley and Dick Law who held the positions of Chief Scout and Chief Transfer Negotiator respectively are thought to be saying their goodbyes after years of service at The Emirates and Highbury.
Raul Sanllehi is a Spaniard who worked with Barcelona for 14 years and was key to the club’s recruitment success around the world including huge transfers of both Neymar and Luis Suarez and his role, according to an official statement is:
“To lead future player negotiations and work alongside manager Arsene Wenger, chief executive Ivan Gazidis and contract negotiator Huss Fahmy. He will also represent and support the club with international and domestic governing bodies…”
Fans believe that this could be the beginning of the end for Wenger and starts to dilute his power but whether this is the case of not, the job of Sanllehi, Mislintat and co. is to take Arsenal back to the top where we belong.
