Arsenal’s Nigerian playmaker; Alex Iwobi has voiced his frustration over what he sees as the main cause of Arsenal’s disappointing defeat to Manchester City on Sunday. He believes that it could have been a different outcome if the flag had gone up against David Silva which led to Gabriel Jesus’ goal.
In an interview after the match, Iwobi said:
“We were pushing to get the equaliser but unfortunately the referee wasn’t able to see that it was offside. There’s nothing that you can do, we just have to move on to the next game…”
The Gunners coming back into the game after Lacazette had reduced the deficit to 2-1 after coming on and the tempo of the game prior to the third City goal showed that the game was still very open at 2-1 with Arsenal looking more likely to snatch an equaliser.
City were clearly the better side on the day but anything could have happened if the offside decision had been spotted and the goal not given. The penalty awarded to City after Raheem Sterling dived in the box was also one that is debatable, which on another day could have led to a very different outcome.
Arsenal now have to cope with the next few games coming after the international break with the gap between Arsenal and City now standing at a seemingly unassailable 12 points after just 11 games. That’s four more victories than the Gunners already and any Arsenal comeback has to be begin with a win over an in-form Spurs side at The Emirates next weekend.
Tottenham have said that they have a host of injuries during this international break, all players which are pretty much guaranteed to return against us in a week and a half‘s time of course.
