The Evening Standard are reporting that Mustafi will miss our top of the table (sort of) clash on Sunday with Man City in the Premier League.
It was thought that Mustafi could be back this weekend following the groin injury he picked playing for Germany in one of the recent boring interlulls, but it seems the City game will be too soon for him to make his central defensive comeback.
Mustafi wouldn’t be playing in our Europa League game this Thursday for the visit of Red Star Belgrade as Wenger tends to play a second string XI so he’ll be giving Mustafi as much time as possible to try and get himself fit for our hardest game of the season. Laurent Koscielny will probably also be rested to prevent his persistent ankle injury getting worse, so it’s down to whether or not Wenger fancies the BFG against City’s wealth of multi-millionaire strikeforce.
Man City are so far unbeaten in the league having only dropped two points all season so we will have our work cut out and would be hoping for Mustafi to try and turn things around and at least feature in the game. Arsene Wenger should reveal the team news later in the week once the dust has settled after our Europa League game and who knows, there seems to be nothing too concrete so Mustafi could yet feature.
Mexican winger eyed as Sanchez replacement?
In other news, the report claims that Calum Chambers is back in full training, a welcome boost at least for our Europa League hopes, a win being enough to see us through to the next round, just 174 games left until the quarter finals should we progress*.
*not really.
