Arsenal are looking for ways to boost their defence as the club look to finish higher than last season’s fifth place finish. Finishing out of the top four ruled the North London club out of Champions League qualification for the first time in over 20 years.

The player that has apparently been identified by the club as key to achieving our league title aspirations is Napoli defender, Nikola Maksimovic, according to a report from The Mirror.

The Serbian international is currently getting limited game time at Napoli and could consider moving come January and Football Italia are reporting that Arsenal are ready to make their move in January.

He has only been able to get two games under his belt this season and a player they acquired for £20m in 2016 would surely be hoping for more first team action and he may need to leave the Italian giants to achieve that.

Reports claim that we are willing to pay the £20m Napoli spent on him and with the current injury crisis at Arsenal, getting a new defender in January is going to be key in improving our rapidly disappearing title hopes.

It is now left for Wenger and the club to go all out to get a player who could be capable of adding some much needed solidity to our defence.
