Despite yesterday’s positive news on Mesut Ozil’s contract situation, where it was revealed by his agent that talks were moving in a positive direction, we were brought back to earth today by AW as he revealed that both Sanchez and Ozil could still be sold in January.
During his Watford presser this morning he said that both players were happy at Arsenal, but they could also both leave in the January window – so glad that one was cleared up!
As you know, they are both out of contract next summer and will be free to leave on a free transfer, but it looks like Arsene Wenger may yet cash in if they don’t want to stay, and make a move in January to offload them for a fee. Turkey or Manchester United being a possible destination for Ozil, and PSG or Man City for Sanchez, though they can’t discuss a move within the Premier League until they are out of contract in the summer. It’s expected that Manchester City will be back in for Sanchez in January after missing out at the end of the last transfer window with a last minute £60m bid.
Wenger said this morning, via The Daily Telegraph: “Once you are in our situation, you envisage every solution. It is possible [for them to leave in January], I always said just because we didn’t find agreement, it doesn’t mean they will leave. Both players are happy here – I hope the situation can turn around…”
It’s back to actual football this weekend (wait, what?) and we’ll be hoping to continue our rich vein of form with an away win at Watford – team news soon.
