Shkodran Mustafi could be out for a while, picking up what looked to be a torn ligament while playing for Germany against Azerbaijan this weekend in the World Cup qualifiers.

Mustafi pulled up dramatically clutching his leg and had to be helped off this pitch by the physio and his team and looked to be in considerable pain after 36 minutes of Germany’s 5-1 win in Kaiserslauten.

The news will come as a huge blow to Arsene Wenger as we are already dealing with injuries to both Calum Chambers and more importantly captain Laurent Koscielny who continues to miss games with a persistent ankle injury. This would leave Rob Holding and Per Mertesacker as our only fit centre backs meaning Nacho Monreal could come back into the middle, striking fear into the heart of most Arsenal fans.

Mustafi will return to Arsenal this week for more tests, but German boss Joachim Loew was quoted as saying that:

“It doesn’t look good, it looks like he had torn a ligament. We’re waiting for a full diagnosis, but it looks like he will be out for a while…”

Fingers crossed this is one of those ‘looks worse than it is’ moments and he’s just pulled a hammy.
