Jack Wilshere could be in line for a shock recall for England as our national side now prepares for the World Cup in Russia after qualifying this week with a late win over Slovenia.
The side, containing mostly Tottenham players and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain looked devoid of any creativity and it was a 94th minute Harry Kane winner which sealed the shaky win.
Gareth Southgate has said that he could consider Wilshere as an option despite his lack of first team minutes for Arsenal since coming back from injury. Update on Arsenal’s mini-injury crisis ahead of Watford game next week.
When asked whether Wilshere was an option for England, Southgate said via The Daily Mail: “We’re in a position where there’s no way we would dismiss any creative player, but people have to be playing and have to be playing at a good level…”
The Daily Mail claim Wilshere was considered for this weekend’s qualifiers but wasn’t picked due to lack of first team appearances and overall fitness. Wilshere’s resurgence continues with some astounding performances in the League Cup and Europa League for Arsenal and if that carries on then Southgate could soon add him to his World Cup squad.
Meanwhile Aaron Ramsey starred for Wales as they beat Georgia 1-0 in Tbilisi, and with just one game to go Wales could secure a place in Russia 2018 with a win in their last game against the Republic of Ireland on Monday night in Cardiff.
Ramsey said: “We wanted to finish off with two wins, we’re halfway there. We wanted to go back to Cardiff with the three points and it’s going to be a big game on Monday night…”
