Arsenal legend Martin Keown today launched into an almighty tirade against Mesut Ozil, claiming he’s already ‘downed tools and left Arsenal’.
Keown has told Radio 5 Live that he thinks Arsene Wenger needs to cash in on the player in January, with Manchester United keen to land the German. Rumours were rife earlier in the week that Jose Mourinho was keen to bring the playmaker to Old Trafford to reunite their successful partnership at Real Madrid seven years ago.
He said:
“I think he’s testing Wenger more than any other player has, I think it was Belarus the other week, he didn’t fancy going, suddenly he was injured again, he played nine minutes against West Bromwich Albion on the Monday, so how did he get injured there…?”
Ozil will also sat out Germany’s World Cup qualifiers, so in theory he should be super-fit and raring to go for our next league game which is away to Watford next weekend.
It also says in this article from Football365 that ‘Ozil is locked in negotiations with the club’, but is not expected to stay any longer than this season despite his pre-season claims that he was happy and wanted to stay at Arsenal.
All fair points from Keown, time for Ozil to put up or shut up as we need to see true commitment or his true colours, over to you Mesut…
