According to reports emanating from Ghana Soccernet, former Arsenal legend Emmanuel Eboue has reportedly been diagnosed with HIV.

Rumours were widespread in Turkey that the 36-year-old defender had become infected with the disease on Monday when Eboue’s agent Tekin Birinci posted on his Facebook account.

He wrote:

“Unfortunately is true that we are facing some medical problems about Eboue but is not right to make any comments about it at the moment. Tonight he will go to England and tomorrow will make the necessary medical checkups so we will know how serious it is…”

It was reported that the virus was first picked up while the Former Ivory Coast defender was undergoing a medical for the Cypriot side AEL Limassol where they first detected the virus in his blood.

Eboue moved to Arsenal from Belgian side Beveren in 2004, staying at The Emirates for seven amazing years before he moved to Turkey to play for Galatasaray where he won three Super Lig titles, one Turkish Cup and two Super cups with the Turkish giants.

In March 2016, we thought we were in for another Premier League treat as he joined English club Sunderland on a short term deal, but in true Eboue style, before he could even play a match he was slapped with a one-year FIFA ban after failing to pay a former agent. In April 2016 he was released by Sunderland having not even kicked a ball for the club.

If these rumours are true, we wise Manu all the best, a true Arsenal cult hero.
