In a game many people, including me, expected us to lose, we amazingly weren’t actually rubbish against a ‘big’ side. In fact, we were pretty, pretty good, and probably deserved more than just a point.
Mesut Ozil was ruled out with a ‘small knee problem’ before the game, and Alexis Sanchez was also dropped to the bench after his heroics against Cologne last Thursday and let’s be honest, no one gave us a prayer even if those two had started, which they didn’t, so they didn’t.
We soaked up some early pressure and then managed to get a foothold in the game ourselves, Aaron Ramsey (who was Man of the Match – I KNOW RIGHT!) hit the post, and Lacazette blazed over the rebound from 5 yards somehow. Mustafi had a goal disallowed (correctly) and we defended well and actually showed some fight for a change.
Sadly though, despite all of our ingenuity and resolute defending, we couldn’t find a way through and had to settle for a point.
There was still time late on for the standard Chelsea red card, David Luiz getting his marching orders after a very messy tackle on the impressive Sead Kolasinac.
Kolasinac played the rest of the game with a broken leg which had fixed itself by the time he’d ordered a pint of molten Mercury in the players lounge after the game, what a guy.
Finally this season a performance to be really proud off – let’s hope we can kick on from it and start putting together a decent league run.
