Arsene Wenger admitted this week that talks about a new deal for Mesut Ozil have not broken down, but have merely slowed.
Ozil, like his team mate Alexis Sanchez is entering in to the final year of his current deal and could leave next summer for free, so the club are keen to tie them both down. It’s looking likely the German will stay, but Alexis will leave the club next summer on a free transfer.
According to Football 365, Ozil has already turned down a £275,000-a-week offer to remain at Arsenal but they claim he is holding out for more before he signs, but when asked if he was hopeful of keeping Ozil, Wenger said:
“Yes, of course, the contract talks have slowed down a little bit since August 31, because we need a little breather and to focus on the competition, but we will slowly get back into that…”
With his future in doubt, proverbial footballing vulture Jose Mourinho is apparently keen to have talks with Ozil, and is considering a shock move to land the player for around £42m according to Turkish Football.
Ozil played for Mourinho at Real Madrid, winning La Liga and the Spanish Cup before his now infamous deadline day move to Arsenal in 2013.
He is expected to be rested for our Europa League game at The Emirates tonight against Cologne, but should be back for the short journey to West London for the Chelsea game on Sunday lunchtime.
