While away on our tour of Australia, Mesut Özil has confirmed that he does want to stay at Arsenal, despite rumours to the contrary as his current deal moves into it’s final year.

There has been much speculation about the German seeing out his current deal, leaving now, or signing a new contract, but it looks like he will be with us for a while yet, thank goodness, he said in The Guardian:

“It is definitely my preference to stay, it is such a great club and I have always said that I feel very good at Arsenal. Once everyone is back in London, we will sit down and discuss about the future…”

Özil has also said that he would love his team mate Alexis Sanchez to stay, and that ‘it would hit the team quite hard’ should the Chilean leave Arsenal this summer.

“It would hit the team quite hard if he left because he’s a player who always delivers, it would be a setback to winning the title but, in the end, it’s the player’s decision. I hope Alexis stays but I don’t know what the status is, to be honest…”

Speaking at our rather dramatic third kit launch in Sydney today, or yesterday, or tomorrow, whatever it is in Australia, Özil reiterated that he loves London and he is happy to discuss his future when everyone is back in London.

Arsenal have already been active in the transfer market, with the acquisition of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon, while Alexis Sanchez however, remains tight-lipped on his future and is currently enjoying a holiday break on a paradise island.
