The club today announced that four players would be released at the end of this month, the biggest name of the four being our very own Yaya Sanogo. Sanogo scored just once in 19 games for Arsenal, a Champions League goal in a game against Borussia Dortmund and will begin the search for another club. He was quoted last week as saying ‘the adventure ends‘ which much surely bring a tear even to the most hardened Gooner… maybe not…
The club confirmed that Sanogo, along with Stefan O’Connor, Kris da Graca and Kostas Pileas will all be leaving Arsenal and their contracts will not be renewed.
In more positive news however, Arsene Wenger has confirmed that 17 year old Reiss Nelson will be promoted up to the first team squad after making some big steps in his development last season. He has been with the club since he was 8, and last season scored 11 times in 26 games for the U18s and trained with the first team squad for a lot of last season.
Wenger said on Arsenal player on the official site that first and foremost he is going to try and keep our first team group together. He also said that Nelson and team mate Ainsley Maitland-Niles will officially join the squad:
“We have some young players who will join the squad next season, like Reiss Nelson, like Ainsley Maitland-Niles already, so they are two players. We have quality players who might have a chance next season and hopefully we will be able to do that again because that’s part of the DNA of the club as well…”
Good luck to the leavers, and the remainers!
