Arsenal and Costa Rica striker Joel Campbell has confirmed that he will be returning to The Emirates as soon as this current season ends. The ace went to a Sporting event in his hometown, and when questioned by journalists, he was asked whether if there is any chance for the Portuguese club to keep him next summer, his reply, quoted by A Bola:
“There’s no buying option, I have to fulfill my loan at Sporting in the best way and, then, return to Arsenal…”
Despite joining Sporting Lisbon on loan from Arsenal during the previous summer transfer window, the ace still failed to make it into the Portuguese club’s starting lineup and perhaps because of his unimpressive stats, this discouraged Sporting and they never pushed for a permanent deal.
However, Campbell still believes he’ll be getting the chance to prove himself after the upcoming international break, as he said:
“I have given the best of myself, sometimes I play, other times not, but that’s football. But I hope I can play again when I return…”
Sporting is not the first club Campbell is joining on Loan as he as formerly played for Villarreal, Betis and Olympiakos.
His contract will also be expiring next year, so Arsene Wenger will have to decide over his, and Campbell’s future. I think he will choose to keep him or sell him this time as he is 24 now, and he can’t just be loaned out forever.
