Manchester United have not been in the best of form so far this season under new manager Jose Mourinho. It now looks like the Portuguese manager is desperate to completing the signing of highly-rated Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez to boost his defensive options.

However, a report from The Sun today claims that Mourinho is set for more misery as Arsene Wenger also wants to sign Gimenez to reinforce his defence, with Per Mertesacker and Gabriel’s future at the Emirates Stadium both now seemingly in doubt.

It widely believed that Gimenez who is rated at around £54million by The Sun will have a difficult job breaking into Arsene Wenger’s squad as new signing Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny have been very impressive so far this season and most people would agree they are one of the best centre back pairings in the league at the moment.

Jose Gimenez is currently facing a difficult time at Atletico Madrid, and is also on the radar of Real Madrid, and it remains to be seen whether we’d seriously splash in excess of £54m on a defender, when we have Per to return, still have Gabriel and Rob Holding at the back, as well as Calum Chambers still to come back from loan.
