As our rich vein of form continued last night against Nottingham Forest, we saw another four goals scored without reply as we ran out 4-0 winners in the EFL Cup.

Another absolute thunderbolt from Granit Xhaka opened the scoring on 23 minutes, emulating his late strike away at Hull at the weekend.

Then new boy Lucas Perez scored a penalty, and a decent solo effort and Oxlade-Chamberlain followed suit with another great, late goal to finish off the rout.

The draw for the last 16 will take place tonight live on Sky Sports, and the ties will take place on the 25th and 26th of October.

Arsene Wenger admitted that our dismal 3-0 defeat away at Sheffield Wednesday in the same competition (with a different name) last season had inspired the performance:

“I told the players that last year (after beating Spurs) we went to Sheffield Wednesday and lost 3-0 because we were not ready mentally for the commitment of the Championship and I think our history helped us a little bit tonight to start in a much stronger way…”
