17-goal target to miss club’s match, after Arsenal bid – fans will like this

It looks like Arsene Wenger is finally becoming active in the transfer market following the earlier acquisition of Granit Xhaka. Things have been very quiet since the midfielder was bought at the start of the window and the manager has been under intense pressure from fans to improve the squad to keep up with our rivals and Spurs.

We’ve been linked with every striker across Europe since missing out on Jamie Vardy way back in June, and it seems as though Arsene Wenger has been frustrated in his chase for a new number 9. With many players seeming to see a link to Arsenal as a stepping stone to a new contract, or to arouse interest from other clubs.

The latest link to surface a day or two ago was Deportiva La Coruna striker Lucas Perez, a one-time Everton target, but now subject of a circa £18m bid from Arsenal as Wenger finally fills the gap up top left by Danny Welbeck.

The player will be allowed to miss the match against Real Betis, it’s thought he’s in London for a medical with Arsenal and could be announced as early this afternoon and maybe even in the squad for the Watford game if things can be tied up in time.

At this morning’s press conference, Arsene Wenger said the deal for the Spaniard, along with the deal for German centre back; Shkodran Mustafi, are ‘99% done’.

Deportivo also tweeted this morning:

Perez has a better scoring record than Olivier Giroud, scoring 17 goals and providing 8 assists, finally Wenger gets his man. Does he possess the attributes to get on the end of endless Ozil assists, or do you find the move underwhelming. I personally feel it’s a great signing, not quite the madness we have been hoping for, but a good option up front, welcome Perez!
