Arsenal in advanced talks with club to complete move for World Cup winner
Unfortunately for us, our young signings always seem to struggle to get work permits, and it looks like our fourth signing of the summer, Nigerian starlet Kelechi Nwakali is set to befall the same fate.
A report from The Daily Star claims that Arsenal are in talks with Norwegian club Viking over a possible loan deal for our new signing after his recent arrival due to work permit issues.
It’s thought Nwakali may struggle to play his way into Wenger’s first team plans, and it makes more sense to send him out on loan like so many before him, to gain vital first team experience. I have watched Nwakali in the recently concluded U17 World Cup finals and I personally think he has the potential to better than ex-Arsenal and Barcelona player Alex Song.
The 18-year-old won the World Cup with the Nigerian U17 side and he was named the player of the tournament due to his brilliant performances in the competition.
It has been a while now since Arsenal has come up against the work permit issue, Wellington and Joel Campbell where the last two who struggled, and were also both loaned out to the Italian leagues.
It also looked like new Japanese signing Takumo Asano will also be refused a work permit and will also head out on loan, again, disappointing after a string of impressive performances in the Olympics.
Costa Rican international Campbell was later granted a work permit and he was played in 30 games in all competitions for Arsenal but never quite impressed Sir Wenger enough, and finally lost his place to Alex Iwobi.
Wellington’s situation seemed to be worse, and he only played one game, so we can only hope the Nwakali situation doesn’t go down the same road.
Nwakali’s performances in the World Cup have been more than promising, so let’s hope he’s granted a work permit in the near future and he can become the Alex Song of tomorrow, or even better, become an Arsenal legend like his hero Nwankwo Kanu.
