The ArsenalShorts Thursday Round Up

So as the transfer window, closes a tiny bit more and another day passes with no signings. As it edges closer to the ground, Arsene Wenger is currently rolling towards it in slow motion like a French Indiana Jones, while a huge ball of angry Arsenal fans roll towards him. It’s yet to be seen whether he picks up the treasure/madness, maybe dumping Theo as the makeweight to stop the thing from — anyway…

Arsene has reiterated we’re in (down) the market, but there’s nothing concrete in terms of facts, sightings or comment on anything of that ilk.

Most likely to sign still seems to be Valencia’s Mustafi, but yesterday’s madness, following on from the previous day’s Lewandowski frenzy, was once again Riyad Mahrez. Unfounded reports coming out of France saying we’d bid £30m, then £35m for the player, still nothing to back it up, but it certainly got the Arsenal fans worked up… again.

Clutching. At. Straws.

Olympics Round Up…

Our next big thing, the little Japanese fella, is on his way home. Takumo Asano’s Japan won 1-0 against Sweden last night but still saw his side fail to qualify, and exit from the competition.

Serge Gnabry on the other hand is having the time of his life in Rio. He’s now top scorer in the cmpetition, with another two yesterday as his Germany ran out 10-0 winners over Fiji. Gnabbers now has an amazing 5 goals in 3 games for Germany…

Early Team News…

Well, it doesn’t look like any signings are going to be featuring against Liverpool this Sunday, so it remains to be seen who our defenders will be.

You already know Per and Gabriel are injured, and it looks like AW will rest Koscielny for the game, along with Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil, who all returned to training this week.

This leaves a combo of our remaining defenders to be spread across the back line, in a random formation to open the season for us.

Up top, it could be left to Alexis Sanchez to fly the flag, or it could be Theo to be given the nod after a decent performance against Manchester City.

We should find out more tomorrow when AW gives, what is sure to be an interesting Press Conference, where my money is on him losing his rag with the incessant questioning about transfers. Again.
