27 goals in 33 game striker misses training amid reported Arsenal interest
Arsenal have failed to win the Premier League for over 10 years (almost 60 for Spurs in case you were wondering, ahem…) and it was said after the new stadium was built that we’d be able to compete with the European big guns, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Leicester.
However, as the transfer window speedily counts down to a close, we are still to sign another senior or first team player after the early acquisition of Granit Xhaka.
Since we kicked off at The Emirates Stadium in 2006 we have lost many key players with the likes of Farbregas, Song, van Persie and Nasri to name but a few (********s) all sold to balance the books as Arsene Wenger steadied the ship to keep the club on the straight and narrow.
There have been many names mentioned during this window, following the signings of youngsters Asano Takano, Rob Holding and Kelechi Nwakali, but still no more marquee signings despite many, many rumours across the media in recent days and weeks (and what seems like years).
The latest player to be linked with a payrise at his current club transfer to Arsenal is Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani, and aPortuguese news outlet O Jogo via The Daily Star has fuelled the flames of this rumour by announcing Slimani wants to join a top Premier League team this summer.
It’s also claimed by Sky Sports that Swansea had a £17m bid turned down this week.
The report claimed he held talks with Sporting boss Jorge Jesus after training on Monday, but when his request was turned down, he refused to train with his team mates. Lisbon say he was granted permission to miss training, but this news throws yet another striker shaped hat into Arsene Wenger’s search ring of destiny.
Slimani’s current contract expires in 2020, and his release clause is said to be around £26m. He scored 27 goals in just 33 appearances for Lisbon last season, as our now traditional closing lines explains perfectly.
