Confirmed: Gabriel out for two months….

It was confirmed today that Gabriel will be out of action for around 6-8 weeks following the ankle injury which he picked up against Manchester City at the weekend, now confirmed as a strain. With the grave, recent news that Per Mertesacker will out for ‘a few months’ thiscomes as a huge blow to our squad, with the opening game of the season just days away.

Gabriel himself tweeted that things weren’t too bad, and thanked the fans for their support this morning in a post which reminded me of this… then a tweet from ‘the Arsenal Oracle’, the BBC’s David Ornstein confirmed our worst fears.

With the Liverpool game on Sunday, unless Valencia’s Mustafi signs in the next day or two, it looks like we will be facing Liverpool with a makeshift defence of ragtags and misfits. Wenger may have to hand full debuts to Rob Holding and/or Krystian Bielik, or go with Calum Chambers and shuffling the rest of the pack, Kieran Gibbs, Hector Bellerin, Mathieu Debuchy and Nacho Monreal. Joy.

Laurent Koscienly is said to be rested for the game after his European Championship involvement, along with Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil but who knows, given the enforced emergency situation, it’s still possible Kos the Boss could feature.

After the Liverpool game, we then face Champions Leicester the following week as the season gets well and truly underway.
