Good news for Arsenal, as Valencia eye Mustafi’s replacement
The ongoing rumours regarding Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi joining Arsenal have won’t seem to go away, and things have also been made a little more urgent given Gabriel’s injury.
The Brazilian picked up a knee injury during Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Manchester City in Gothenburg on Sunday, and with Per Mertesacker out for ‘a few months’, Mustafi must surely now be the number one priority for Wenger.
The German international defender has emerged as Arsene Wenger’s main target in recent weeks, and the report from Plaza Deportiva claim that Valencia are eyeing a move for Napoli defender Raul Albiol, who could be seen as a replacement for Mustafi.
Arsenal fans will be hoping Wenger can push through a move quickly for Mustafi, as we are now just days away from the new season, and Laurent Koscielny is also missing the Liverpoll game after his Euro 2016 exploits.
This move makes a lot of sense for Arsenal, and Mustafi has some Premier League experience, having played for Everton in the early stages of his career back between 2009 and 2012, and he is also familiar with some of Arsenal’s players due to his international career with Germany. The 24-year-old La Liga ace has also played in Serie A league for Sampdoria, so has the experience Arsene Wenger is looking for, and it’s thought that if Arsenal put in a sensible offer, Valencia will be tempted to sell him as they try to balance their own books to meet the FFP requirements.
Mustafi, 24, is now in London with Valencia who are training just few miles away from The Emirates which could help to speed up the transfer.
However, another news outlet, Plaza Deportivo report that a potential stumbling block could be the fee (surprise surprise) and they have said they will not sell him for anything less than €30m.
