Arsenal close in on £60m striker – agent flying to London for talks

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has taken a huge step forward in bringing in a striker to compete with Olivier Giroud next season.

It seems as though Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi is the man Sir Wenger wants to bring in to bolster his attacking options, with Theo Walcott less than impressive in recent weeks, and to relieve some of the pressure on Oliver Giroud. Danny Welbeck is still sidelined, and a report emanating from Italy yesterday claims that the striker’s agent is en route to London to begin talks for the £60m Argentinian.

In recent weeks, France and Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette has strongly been linked with a move to the North London, but Icardi has been emerged has the Gunners prime target. It was widely reported in The Express  last month that Wenger now has his eye on Icardi.

Another reports in the Calcio Mercato  claims the Gunner’s French manager is ready to forge ahead to get a deal done for the 23 year old, one of the most prolific strikers in Europe. His goal tally for Milan speaks for itself, with Icardi scoring 52 goals in 102 appearances since his arrival from Sampdoria in 2013.

The news outlet further reported that Napoli are also looking at Icardi as a replacement for Higuain who joined Juventus last week, and they claim Icardi is after a salary upwards of €5 million (£4.2m) per season with Inter looking for €70 million (£60m) to secure his services.

However, personally I can’t see Wenger spending so much on Icardi, so lets wait and see, but it looks like the Argentinian and Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette are prime targets for Wenger, who is also said to be on the lookout for a centre back replacement for the injured Per Mertesacker.

Surely there must be some movement soon… watch this space!
